Bargain hunters saved four tonnes of unwanted items from being scrapped in Hertfordshire. More than 900 pieces of furniture, bikes and household items were sold at Hertfordshire County Council’s pop-up Reuse Shop. The items up for grabs at the county show – equivalent in weight to eight, 20-foot oak trees – would have otherwise been broken down, recycled or disposed of. Large crowds gathered during the daily live auctions, where high-value items went under the hammer with a £1 starting bid.
