US President Joe Biden plans to travel to France at the beginning of June to take part in ceremonies marking the landing of Allied troops in Normandy during World War II. White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre announced Biden’s travel plans on Wednesday without giving further details of the trip. Allied soldiers landed on the beaches of Normandy 80 years ago, on June 6, 1944. D-Day, as it was known, marked the beginning of the liberation of Europe from Nazi Germany from the west.
