Slovenia’s Tadej Pogacar became the third cyclist to win the road race world title on top of two grand tours in the same year with an extraordinary solo ride on Sunday in Zurich. The Giro d’Italia and Tour de France winner claimed a maiden worlds gold when he rode away from the peleton with some 100 kilometres left, caught a leader group with a little help from team-mate Jan Tratnik, and then rode on his own to the finish over the final 50km.
