At least nine pro-Iranian fighters were killed in overnight airstrikes believed to have been mounted by US warplanes in eastern Syria near the border with Iraq, a war monitor reported on Saturday. The strikes targeted posts manned by pro-Iranian militias in the Syrian town of al-Bu Kamal and a related convoy arriving from neighbouring Iraq, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
