Nicolas Gestin gave hosts France men’s Olympic gold in canoe slalom at the Paris Games on Monday. The Frenchman clocked 91.36 seconds with no penalties through the 23 gates in the C1 event and took an impressive 5.48 second advantage over silver medallist Adam Burgess of Britain. Bronze went to Rio 2016 silver medallist Matej Benus of Slovakia. Tokyo 2020 gold winner Benjamin Savsek finished 11th after receiving a 50-second time penalty for missing a gate.
