German inflation decreased significantly in January, with consumer prices showing an annual 2.9% increase after 3.7% in December, the government’s statistical office said on Wednesday. This is the lowest figure since June 2021, when the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 2.4%, the data office said. According to preliminary data, energy cost 2.8% less in January than a year earlier, despite the increase in the carbon dioxide price to €45 ($48.8) per ton. The price of food rose by 3.8%.
