Nearly 5,000 asylum seekers have arrived in the country after crossing the English Channel so far this year. Around 349 people are thought to have arrived in Dover after making the dangerous waterway journey in seven boats yesterday (March 30), Home Office figures revealed. It takes the total for this year to 4,993 according to the provisional data published by the government.
